Nigerian b-boy music in videos

Today, I’m going to share with you some mixed tapes for break dancing from Nigerian artists. But before doing so, if you don’t know yet the general origins of b-boy music and dance themselves, just have a read at these articles 👇

nigerian breakdance

In Nigeria, Hip-hop music and dance only began to gain popularity in the mid-1990s. The initial success of The Remedies was probably the catalyst. Formed in 1997, the group released two songs, “Judile” and “Shako mo”, which became overnight hits in Nigeria.

Enjoy this Youtube videos’ play list from The Remedies!

I have also found especially for you some rare old Nigerian funk music 😉:

Now show us your moves on one of these music tracks by copying your video link in the comment box! Can you be as good bowler as b-boy 😝?

Theo Parrish, his band and dancers – Teddy’s Get Down 2014 live show at Sugar Club, Dublin (Ireland)

Theo Parrish is a musician and selector based in Detroit, Michigan, often described as a ‘techno/house’ artist. He was born in Washington D.C. in 1972. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois listening to jazz musicians like Miles Davis, Nina Simone, and George Gershwin. He began spinning and producing tracks in 1986, at the age of thirteen… After graduating from the Academy for the Arts, he received a scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute. In 1994, he received a BA’s Degree of Fine Arts from KCAI with a concentration in Sound Sculpture, a form of orchestration using live instruments, looped recordings, the human voice, and numerous other sound generating devices.Theo Parrish can fuse the rhythmic, disco-based pulse of Chicago house with the modernist soul of Detroit techno, while at the same time pointing to a lineage in black music that runs directly from Sun Ra to Sound Signature.

Theo Parrish came to give a live performance in Dublin on Thursday 19th July 2014 with a full band and dancers for the first time in 10 years. Check out below the slideshow photos, videos and mixed tape taken of this live event and feel free to follow me on Youtube, Soundcloud or WordPress!

Street Dance films starring children or teenagers worth watching!

I usually post videos or films starring adults but I discovered two nice street dance films showcasing children’s talents. As you know, most professional dancers start at young age, so don’t dismiss their skills! I have included the full film videos in this post. So have a read at the plots and enjoy watching!

The first one is a British film, which has received very good ratings and has a nice storyline. It’s called “All Stars“.

all stars street dance film

It features the 2010 winner of Sky HD hit TV talent show ‘Got To Dance’ Akai Osei-Mansfield. This comedy family entertainment movie tells the story of two kids teaming up to save their East London youth club by staging a dance show…and have to move fast to avoid humiliation. With one banned from dancing and the other discover that he has two left feet, the pair rope in their misfit mates to put on a show stopping routine. But can they get their act together in time for their make or break performance?  ‘All Stars’ features a cast of famous faces including Theo Stevenson (Horrid Henry), and Kimberley Walsh (Girls Aloud).

The second one is an American film, which has received moderate ratings. I still think it’s worth watching it, though. It’s called “Battlefield America“.

battlefield america street dance film

Staring Marques Houston (Sean Lewis), Mekia Cox (Sarah Miller), Lynn Whitfield (Marcia Parker), and a slew of talented young dancers, Battlefield America is filmed in Los Angeles. It tells the story of Sean Lewis (Houston), a successful businessman sentenced to community service for a DUI. Forced by children’s center director (Cox) to teach a band of misfits how to dance, Sean (Houston) winds up learning much more about himself than he ever imagined. Talented youth dancers – Tristen Carter (Eric), Edward Mandell (Marv), Kida Burns (Tommy) and Camren Bicondova (Prissy) – steal the show in underground dance competition (aka “battles”).

Now, want to watch them? Check out the below Youtube videos. Free viewing and no need to download anything!
